Let Us Match Your Home With Your Desired Lifestyle and Budget

This is one of the most important first steps in building the home of your dreams.  Your desired lifestyle (post-construction) should be the thing that defines the main elements of your new custom home design.  These elements must also coincide with your budget.

The style of your home will be determined not only by exterior appearance but will depend upon your building site -- property location, slope, and the other intrinsic characteristics.  Every property is unique because of three main things:  intrinsic characteristics, location, and immobility.  Not every home style and size compliments every property. We are the custom home builders that will make your home fit your lifestyle.

Sitting down with the Builder (Scott), to begin putting your dream home on starting plans, is extremely exciting and rewarding.  It might very well be the culmination of your lifelong dream.  We at CWB work to make this very enjoyable.  You can relax knowing that there is a trust and teamwork relationship with us. We are the custom luxury home builders to turn to to make your dream home a reality.

If you have your new home site selected, ask Scott to visit the site with you so that you can be guided towards a plan that fits the characteristics of your property.  Let's talk about how you want to live -- formal or casual.  What are your interests, hobbies, family, entertainment/social occasions (large or small gatherings)?  What stage of life are you in-- raising children?  college?  empty nest?  retirement?  grandchildren? All of this information is important for your custom luxury home design.

In selecting or developing your house plan consider the following:

1.  Size:  How much house do you need?  If you have a 'growing family' your space needs are different from those of an 'empty nester'.

2.  Configuration:  One level or two story?  Generally, this is a lifestyle preference.  For example, many retirees want one-story living or at least the Master Bedroom on the first floor with Master Bathroom.  Young families may wish to have all bedrooms in close proximity to one another for safety and comfort.

3.  Architectural Style:

  • Colonial
  • Ranch
  • Country Cape Cod
  • Bungalow
  • Country Cottage
  • Craftsman
  • A Frame
  • Chalet
  • Victorian

It is important that you become familiar with the variety of styles available.  The office of Company Woods Builders is a Country Cottage style home.  Cottage and Bungalow style doesn't necessarily mean small, quaint home.  These styles are defined more by their characteristics than size.

4.  Specifications:  What materials do you wish to incorporate in the building of your new home?   The Builder/Designer will identify the various mainstays and help you identify your preferences.  Frequently we use allowances on certain items to give additional flexibility to our clients.

5.  Orientation:  It is always best to keep in mind the orientation of the rooms in relation to the property site and its North/South orientation.  Which rooms do you want to have a southerly exposure?  Scott can also do a 'reverse floor plan' to take advantage of the building site or the terrain of your lot.
